Top cycling routes to Lion Gate, entrance to Rosenhöhe Park

Tips

  • The Lion Gate forms the entrance to Rosenhöhe in Darmstadt. Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig had it built for the artists' colony's 25th anniversary in 1927. It consists of six clinker pillars designed by Albin Müller, on which six lion sculptures created by Bernhard Hoetger in 1914 were positioned. The gates between the pillars are decorated with relief panels that the Darmstadt artist Hermann Tomada made in 1967 as replicas of Hoetger's originals.
