The old town hall in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel is as a town hall an outstanding architectural monument and example of late medieval brick Gothic.

A statue of Roland can be found in front of the Old Town Hall. A Roland in the new town of Brandenburg has been documented since 1402. Today's 5.3 m high sandstone statue with armor and raised sword dates from 1474 and is one of the oldest surviving Roland figures. It originally stood on the Neustädter Markt. Because she disturbed the Prussian military during drills there, she was transferred in 1716 in front of the New Town Hall, after its destruction in World War II in 1946 in front of the Old Town Hall.

The Old Town Hall with the Roland is the administrative center of the Havelstadt.
In the middle of the 15th century, the council and writing rooms were first created.
The main building with the tower was built between 1470 and 1480. Until the unification of the two Brandenburg cities in 1715, the town hall was the administrative center of the old town.
After that, it lost its role as an administrative center and thus lost importance. In the further eventful history, the rooms of the town hall were used as a barch factory (until 1803), as a warehouse, as a warehouse and as a grain store (until 1819).
At the decision of the Prussian-royal government, the expansion of the Old Town Hall to the regional and city courts was decided and in 1819 it was handed over for a few decades. After the town hall was sold to the garrison in 1863, the buildings were used as clothing stores and detention cells. With the deterioration of the structural condition, the town hall became a ruin and had to be vacated in 1904 due to dilapidation. Demolition was imminent. It was not until 1910, after the town bought back the old town hall, that the reconstruction (until 1912) was decided in today's view.
Particularly noteworthy is the paneled gable with the coat of arms of old town council families on the front side of the old town hall, the main portal with head images of four city personalities from the 15th and 16th centuries, and Roland from 1474 to the right of the main portal.
