On the Way of St. James from Effeltrich in the direction of Hetzles on the "Oberer Bühl" there is an unusual octagonal chapel. Its name "Mindful on the Way" indicates the importance of the chapel for pilgrims. It is on the way that leads from Bamberg to Nuremberg, with long-distance destinations in Italy and Spain. The octagonal shape of the chapel is intended to be reminiscent of the church "Santa Maria von Eunate" on the Way of St. James in Spain. This type of building is found primarily in early Christian churches. The windows above are intended to convey the protection of the room. The colored hand-blown Lamberts glass is a real eye-catcher. Between the roof structure and the windows you can find the four cardinal virtues of courage, justice, wisdom and temperance. In between are the Christian virtues of faith, hope and love. The center is the altar, a natural oak trunk. The benches around the church symbolize the way they are arranged: no one sits at the back or the front.
The builder of the chapel offers further information on the website 8x8sam.de/htm/chronik.html.
