The Japanese term "Daibutsu" originally refers to any large Buddha statue, but today is used mostly only for the Big Buddha in Nara (over 16 meters high) and for the Great Buddha in Kamakura (over 13 meters high). The bronze statue in Kamakura was built around 1250 in the temple Kōtoku-in; However, a tsunami at the end of the 15th century destroyed the Temple Hall - since then the statue has been standing outdoors.

Kamakura is a city of not quite 175,000 inhabitants southwest of Tokyo. She has a great cultural heritage - especially since she was the governing city of Japan from 1192 to 1333.

      A great place!

Very well visited, but worth it.

The Buddha statue is just huge and it can be good to spend some time on the site to enjoy the atmosphere.

Many school classes on the way (we were interviewed in English :))

The Buddha can also be visited from the inside for little money. It's worth it!

In addition, the ticket is a nice bookmark ;-)
