Hiking Highlight
The Wolfsschlucht - From here a steep staircase leads up to the lookout point with a view to Echternach.

The gorge was opened for tourism in 1881. Before it was practically inaccessible. In 1881 it was given its current name, which does not correspond to a field name, but rather goes back to a trier excursionist who enthusiastically compared it with the Wolfsschlucht from Carl Maria von Weber's "Freischütz". Indescribably beautiful and a little scary. Great experience.

An impressive gorge!
With its rock faces rising up to 50m on three sides, the gorge is perhaps the most spectacular natural monument in Luxembourg's Little Switzerland. The structure and the stratification of the Luxembourg sandstone can be seen very well on the rock faces. According to research, the formations were created when blocks of Luxembourg sandstone separated from the sandstone plateau along fissures parallel to the valley. The clayey layer of marl located under the sandstone blocks the penetrating water and causes the sandstone blocks to slide into the valley and be tilted in the process. At the entrance to the gorge, the so-called “Cleopatra's Needle” rises, a high, obelisk-like rock needle.

Breathtaking !!!
A place where you just want to stand for hours.
You feel like you are in another time and in the middle of nature, but you are only 2km away from the city.

Although easy to get to, Wolfsschlucht is spectacular. Steep and high rock faces. Stairs. Great views. Great resting place above. On the very recommendable hiking trail E1.

Just fantastic! The photos posted are great, but cannot even come close to depicting reality. You just have to see it!

The Wolfsschlucht is an imposing gorge and accessible from three sides. If you walk north at the crossing point in the Wolfsschlucht (Gorges du Loup) or if you come up the stairs to the right from Echternach, you come to a vantage point with a view of the Sauer.
There is also a bench to rest on the rock and most of the time you should be alone here, which I personally like.
The bench and the lookout point are connected by a concrete bridge over the canyon.Of course, you shouldn't shy away from the many steep sandstone steps on the south side and at least go as far as the massive sofa set with another vantage point and a round metal table with vantage points.

This place is intimidating as it is beautiful. The size of the walls and boulders will make a lasting impression. There are multiple paths to follow waiting for your exploration. Don't forgot to make a 360° view when your down in the heart of it!
