Very beautiful castle ruins on a hill near the Traidkasten in Hilpoltstein. The newly renovated castle ruins are open all the time, the keep can be visited and climbed at weekends. In the castle complex, well-made information boards provide all information about the complex and the history of the castle.

Hilpoltstein castle ruins
A castle on the sandstone cliff above the town was documented from the 11th century. It flourished at the time of the Lords of Stein in the 13th and 14th centuries. The last resident was Dorothea Maria, widow of the Count Palatine Ottoheinrich ll. from Neuburg-Sulzbach. She died at Hilpoltstein Castle in 1639.The castle ruins have been archaeologically examined and renovated in recent years. In the eastern part is the keep (tower) with walls three meters thick. During the summer months, a visit to the keep offers a wide view of the surrounding area at weekends. The cellar at the Burganger from the 11th and 12th centuries was renovated in an elaborate voluntary service by the museum and home association. It offers a wonderful ambience for cultural events, as a wedding room and for weddings in historical style.
