Aying Village

Aying is a beautiful place that I regularly put on my bike tours. If only because of the picturesque townscape and the brewery and pub culture. But the more than 1100-year-old village, in whose area the Celts and Romans have already cavorted, is also rich in history, culture and nature.

Archaeological finds, a Roman fort discovered in 2016 and earth stables in Aying and Peiß prove that there were important Celtic, Roman and medieval settlements in the municipality. According to the only road document that has been handed down as Roman, “Itinerarium Antonini”, the ancient town of “Isinisca” is located in the municipality of Aying along the Roman road Via Julia, which is visible over long stretches from Augsburg via Kissing, Schöngeising, Gilching and Gauting.

Bergermoor
About one kilometer east of Peiß lies the 3.5 hectare Bergermoor, a Bavarian nature reserve that is one of the most valuable raised moor areas in the Munich district.

Adventure brewery in Aying
Beer has been brewed in Aying for 140 years and is now one of the most awarded in all of Europe. For the curious, there are brewery tours to learn how Ayinger beer is made. If you prefer to enjoy rather than learn: the Bräustüberl and brewery inn serve traditional Bavarian food and original Ayinger beer.
