Eight Kochbunkers can be found in the Bergherbos, which were built in haste at the end of the Second World War to defend the German Reich. One of these bunkers was made visible and accessible last year as part of the Interreg project 'View of past and present'.
The Kochbunkers in the Bergherbos were part of the Beek-Riegel; a defensive line that was slanted on 2 major lines. If the enemy broke through one of the main lines, he could be intercepted in the Beek-Riegel. The bunkers were intended to observe the environment.
This bunker is accessible to visitors and has recently been fitted with a periscope, so that you can explore the area. Fortunately, no longer to spot enemies...
