The fourth stage begins with a climb up the Hornisgrinde. At 1164 m, it is the highest elevation in the northern Black Forest and offers a fantastic panoramic view of the Rhine plain, the foothills and the Langenbach valley. When the weather is good, the observation tower is open. An interesting educational trail leads on planks over the 5000 year old raised bog. A wonderful play of colours can be seen here, especially in autumn. A little later, the Dreifürstenstein appears in the forest. A mighty red sandstone slab served as an important boundary stone - the highest point in Württemberg and the border with Baden still lie here today. Nature trails then lead through protected forest areas and a core zone of the national park, which is soon left behind. The route then continues through the Murgschifferschaftswald, 3 km of which is a wonderful high-altitude trail on the ridge between Philipenkopf and Diebaukopf. The route continues at a relaxed pace on a wide path to the Schurmseeblick. Along the way, hidden in a clearing, lies a silted-up lake called Blindsee. The descent to the mystical Schurmsee is the sixth cirque lake on the Seensteig (a short detour leads to the lake shore). The last 4 km are another 350 meters downhill until you reach the destination of Schönmünzach at the confluence of the Schönmünz and Murg rivers.
