As early as 1394, the monastery of Kempten mentions »interest on the mill for Gräbels with the belonging 1 pound Heller« in the monastery of Kempten. It was own property, not a fief of the monastery. It is one of the oldest mills in the Allgäu.
In 1526 we named Jörg Töuber as a miller, the father of the well-known peasant leader of the same name, who was executed after the unsuccessful peasant uprising in 1525.

The power plant has certainly not been in operation for decades. The former mill building looks well-maintained, although that says nothing about the interiors. The weir on the lake, the trash rack cleaner, and the inlet (headwater) to the power plant are only worth scrap metal. All parts are rusted and covered with moss, and the hand cranks with the shafts can no longer be turned. I worked in small hydropower for 20 years at my brother's company.
