As early as 1394, the monastery of Kempten mentions »interest on the mill for Gräbels with the belonging 1 pound Heller« in the monastery of Kempten. It was own property, not a fief of the monastery. It is one of the oldest mills in the Allgäu.
In 1526 we named Jörg Töuber as a miller, the father of the well-known peasant leader of the same name, who was executed after the unsuccessful peasant uprising in 1525.

Cycling

The power plant has probably not been in operation for decades. It's great that they maintain the former mill building, as you can see from the front. The weir on the lake, the trash rack, and the inlet (headwater) to the power plant are now only worth scrap. All the parts are rusted and covered in moss, and the hand cranks with the shafts no longer turn. I worked in small hydropower for 20 years at my brother's company.
