Today's St. Bartholomew's Church is the third church on this site. In 1529 the Reformation was introduced in Pegnitz. The residents of the "New City on the Letten", today's inner city, tried to have their own church. So on August 24th, 1533, Bartholomew's Day, the first church was built at today's location. Around 150 years later, this first Bartholomew Church had to be replaced by a new building, the second Bartholomew Church, of which there are a few pictures. This then became dilapidated, and so it was decided to build a large, spacious church. For reasons of space, at that time one had to deviate from the usual east-west orientation, so that the altar is now in the south of the nave. This building, imposing for the time, was inaugurated on December 20, 1900. In the further course of this current Bartholomäuskirche was renovated several times, most recently in 2000/2001, where the original splendid painting of the galleries was restored. The Bartholomäuskirche has 1000 seats. The altar and pulpit are from the old church, which was demolished in 1899.Source: https: //pegnitz-evangelisch.de/stadtpfarrkirche
