The tunnel was driven through the rock at the beginning of the 18th century and passed by carriage at court festivals. The tunnel has nothing to do with the Hohburg itself, except that it leads through the mountain with the castle plateau. The castle ruins were demolished and the material used for stone walls. Preserved are the castle plateau and wall and ditch remains. The existence of a bailey can not be attested with certainty.

In the mid-1960s, the tunnel served as the location for the DEFA Indian film "The Sons of the Great Bear".

The remains of three buildings on and on the castle plateau probably come from two construction epochs, whereby the older building remains can be attributed to the time in which the tunnel was driven through the mountain. (from sachsens-schloesser.de)

The tunnel is definitely a little adventure and not just for kids 😀

The journey is not necessarily suitable for the bike and with flashlight goes through definitely more discover 👍

This short cave is located on the edge of the Auerwegrundwanderung near Moritzburg in the immediate vicinity of the route. So a little detour is worth it. But beware. It's very dark in the middle.
