Sanctuary of Mare de Déu del Mont and Jacint Verdaguer Statue

The sanctuary is located on top of a mountain, the Mont, and enjoys privileged views over the Empordà plain and the Alta Garrotxa mountains and the southern slopes of the Girona Pyrenees.

The attached church belongs to the late Romanesque, built at the beginning of the 14th century, with a pointed barrel vault. In the 18th century an inn was built, famous for having welcomed the poet Jacint Verdaguer, who wrote one of his most famous poems here, Canigó (mountain in the Pyrenees visible from here).

In 2008 a popular subscription paid for a statue of the poet made in bronze and two meters high. Currently the hostel works as a restaurant and hotel.
