The castle of Meursault built in 1337 by Lord Robert de Grancey was dismantled in 1474 by order of King Louis XI; restored and then dismantled again in 1633 by order of Richelieu, after the betrayal of Henri de Montmorency. It has since been redesigned in town hall with its glazed tile roof of Burgundy. Lordship of Vergy, Grancey, Guy Pot (brother of Philippe Pot), Count of Saint-Pol, then Montmorency.
During the Second World War, Meursault was very close to the free zone. It is for this reason that part of the plot of the famous fictional film La Grande Vadrouille is located in Meursault, where the heroes of the film will try to cross the line of demarcation.
