From this base Ranger offers guided tours to the UNESCO World Heritage site Buchenwald Grumsin.
The most valuable relics of natural old beech forests in DE have been forming a common World Heritage Site since 2011 with the UNESCO World Natural Heritage "Beech forests of the Carpathians" in Ukraine and Slovakia since 2007. In Germany, these protected beech forests include selected forest areas of the national park Jasmund and Müritz (Serrahn) in MVP, Hainich in Thuringia, Kellerwald-Edersee in Hesse and the biosphere reserve Schorfheide-Chorin in Brandenburg (Grumsin). The naturalness in Grumsin interestingly resulted from the fact that it was a state hunting area in GDR times and thus a ban on entry was connected.
