The Listertalsperre is located in the southern Sauerland between the cities of Attendorn, Drolshagen and Meinerzhagen. The lake extends approximately in the center of the Ebbegebirge Nature Park. In addition to numerous nameless smaller tributaries, the lake is fed by the three major inlets Lister, Beche and Herpeler Bach, the Lister namesake of the dam is.
