The 'Werfkapel' on the Werf in Aalst is dedicated to Our Lady of the Grapes. According to tradition, Saint Amandus would have erected a chapel on the Dender bank as early as the 7th century. Throughout its history, the chapel had to be rebuilt several times. The chapel was an important place of pilgrimage, and also served as a parish church. After the destruction of the chapel during the Second World War, it was finally reconstructed in 1955-1956 as a simple, modern chapel after a design by Stani De Neef and Alfons Singelijn.

According to the oldest tradition, the small prayer house on De Werf was first founded in 681 on the banks of the Dender River by Saint Amand, following the discovery of a miraculous statue. It was rebuilt several times: in 1183 as a parish church and important place of pilgrimage (after its destruction by the Normans), in 1363 in the middle of Molenstraat and fitted with a small bluestone tower, and in 1782 due to its dilapidated condition. Closed during the French Revolution from 1792 to 1805, it was designated a protected monument in 1921. It was destroyed and burned down in 1940. Finally, it was rebuilt in 1955-56 as a simple, modern chapel designed by Stani De Neef and Alfons Singelijn.

The Werfkapel Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Ter Druiven owes its name to the vines that were once grown on the banks of the Dender. According to tradition, Saint Amandus is said to have erected a chapel on the Dender bank as early as the 7th century. Throughout its history, the chapel had to be rebuilt several times. The chapel was an important place of pilgrimage, and also served as a parish church.
