Tips

  • The stone sea rescue shed at the Friedrichsschleuse lock dates back to 1910. Twenty-five lives have been saved from the station. One of many rescue missions is documented for November 2, 1869, when the rescuers from Captain Jacobs' VENUS from Rhauderfehn came to the rescue.
In 1945, the Friedrichsschleuse rescue station was closed. Today, the rescue shed houses the German Sielhafen Museum's permanent exhibition on rescue services on the North Sea coast.
