A monk from the Steimke monastery is said to have come to Wahrenholz every four weeks to hold a mass there. In a strong and snowy winter in 1528, he got lost in the thick forest and perished. From then on, a Lutheran pastor was appointed to Wahrenholz. The Reformation had arrived in Wahrenholz.wittingen.eu/146-299_monchskreuz-im-leu.htmlWhen I imagine that in the 16th century, forestry had not yet cut these wide roads into the forest, I like to believe the story.

Unfortunately already getting a bit old. In the summer, the wonderfully growing ferns make up for it!
If you drive by, you don't have to grieve 😉
