These geological phenomena form in zones with loamy moraines and larger stones embedded in them. Over time, the rain washes away the clay more and more, only under the stone, the material remains largely dry and therefore stable. So finally, these somewhat self-evident Erdsäulen arise with a stone on top. On the high plateau of the Ritten this is the case in several places. Of course, the Rittner earth pyramids not far from Klobenstein are particularly well known. But also the earth pyramids in the Rivellaunergraben have a stately number and size show.
