What: six-lane expansion of 43.1 kilometers of route in Brandenburg, 49.5 kilometers of route in Saxony-Anhalt and 57.9 kilometers of route in Thuringia.
Why: The project creates an efficient road connection from the Berlin area through Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia to Bavaria. In addition, the A9 takes traffic from the A14 Halle - Magdeburg (VDE No.14), the A4 Eisenach - Görlitz (VDE No.15) and the A72 Hof - Chemnitz.
