Best Hikes to Schenkenburg Castle Ruins

Tips

  • The Schenkenburg was built around 1250. The stump of the keep is still standing and parts of the Palas, the former hall building, are still there and protrude up to 16 meters in height. Some of the kennels are still there, but overgrown.

You will find an Italian restaurant at the foot of the castle ruins. Tuesdays are closed there.

  • Easy to reach after a short climb. Be careful, the stair stones are very slippery when wet. It's good that a retaining steel cable is attached.
The many display boards are very informative and well illustrated.

  • The castle ruins can also be reached within a few walking minutes outside a hiking tour. The signposting of a small circuit with a detailed description of the ruin and its former appearance is perfect. Also for children an entertaining highlight!
