These beautiful meadows belong to the nature reserve "Oker and Eckertal in the districts of Goslar and Wolfenbüttel".
The approximately 385 hectare protected area covers the Oker lowlands between the district of Wöltingerode (city of Goslar) and the municipality of Schladen, as far as it lies in Lower Saxony. Characteristic of the still preserved natural character of the area is the meandering, fast-flowing, 5-10 m wide river with gravel banks, flood basins and oxbow lakes. The valley vegetation that accompanies the river shows a mosaic of floodplain forests, gravel meadows rich in tall shrubs and flowers, and river gravel grasslands influenced by heavy metals.

The approx. 385 ha protected area includes the Okerniederung between the district Wöltingerode (city of Goslar) and the municipality of Schladen. The meandering, fast-flowing, 5-10 m wide river course with gravel banks, flood troughs and old water is characteristic of the area's still natural character. The valley vegetation that accompanies the river shows a mixture of floodplain forests, gravel fields rich in perennials and flowers, and river gravel grasslands. The distinctive middle edge of the terrace is populated with dry shrubbery and deciduous trees such as oak, ash, cherry, hazelnut and mountain ash. A dream for nature lovers!
