Best Road Cycling Rides to All Saints' Church, Harby

Tips

  • Construction on the current church started in 1874 and was consecrated on 2 August 1877. The original church at Harby was endowed with a chantry chapel by King Edward I in 1294, following the death of Queen Eleanor (Eleanor of Castile), who died in Harby in 1290.
King Edward I famously ordered a 'stone cross' to be erected at each stopping-place on the journey of her body back to London, ending at Charing Cross. These stone crosses are known as Eleanor Crosses.
