Crash site of a British Army Lancaster III PB638. 7 soldiers died. In the Michelbach cemetery, next to the German fallen memorial, there is a tombstone with the names of the dead and their personal identification numbers. However, the dead were probably reburied in the central "Durnbach War Cemetery" in Dürnbach near Gmund am Tegernsee in Upper Bavaria. Their names are: James COLES (1684124), John Francis DORMER (1603839), Harold FERGUSON (989177), Edward Walter FLETCHER (1549302), Peter Raeburn JENKINSON (1826262), Owen Meredith Clement JONES (176235), John Wilson MILBURN (1567899 ). The Lancaster was in the night attack on Stuttgart and was hit by an Me110 in a dogfight over Stuttgart. The Lancaster crew tried to fly back to England, but crashed into the forest near Michelbach.
