The European cross consists of cubes. Each cube stands for one EU country (as of 2009). Inside each cube is a stone of each EU country. For Austria e.g. a special piece of the Vienna St. Stephen's Cathedral and for Germany a piece of the Berlin Wall .... so not just any stone, but a special piece.
