The city park is located near the city center of Kolding next to the playground and acts as a “green transition” between the city and the beautiful nature of Marielundssøen.A lot has happened since the city park in Kolding was a meadow area for the great Dyrehavegård in the 1930s. The park was used for concerts for many years, but was a challenge due to the damp soil in the area. For many years the park was very empty and a bit boring, just like a large green lawn.Simultaneously with the desire to create a more exciting park near the city, there was also a need to relieve the sewage system in downtown Kolding during episodes of cloudbursts and persistent rain. Therefore, the municipality of Kolding and BlueKolding decided to kill two birds with one stone. To build a rainwater pool and create a green oasis with a good connection between Marielundsskoven, the playground and the city. The rainwater pool is now ready and can hold 4,000 cubic meters of rainwater or the equivalent of three Olympic-size swimming pools. When it is not raining, a small stream flows at the bottom of the pool, and flowers are sown here in autumn, and hopefully the area will become a beautiful flower meadow next summer. As part of the beautification project, trees, shrubs and 700 m² of flower meadow were planted. New paths were created and bridges were built that connect the small island in the middle of the rainwater basin with the rest of the park. In addition, benches and sun loungers have been set up and “edible beds” have been set up that can be harvested by anyone who comes along. The rainwater system and the new city park were inaugurated on June 14, 2019, thus completing the climate adaptation project in Byparken - the first major joint climate adaptation project in Kolding.
