The Gustav Adolf opencast mine was opened south of Röcken in 1920. Due to problems with the groundwater system, mining had to be stopped in 1929. A striking tool from this period is the still existing but dilapidated gravel washing and coal loading system, which was built not far from Röcken parallel to the railway line. After 1990 the opencast mine was reforested with softwood plants. de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Röcken
