The parish church of St. Mauritius was first mentioned in 1274 in the Liber valoris, an old tax book for the Archdiocese of Cologne. With the construction of the church, Weilerswist and Vernich were evidently separated from the district of the evidently older Swisterberg parish church and raised to an independent parish. After the great village fire of February 7, 1757, which also destroyed the medieval church, all residents of Weilerswist and Klein contributed -Vernich, which belonged to the parish of Weilerswist until 1804, made their financial contribution to the reconstruction.

The Mauritius Church is part of the Way of St. James and you can get the pilgrim's stamp at the local parish office. Inside there is also a very nice church.
