Another part of the Ulm Federal Fortress, which is more hidden than obvious. It was built together with the Fort Oberer Eselsberg main plant between 1883 and 1887. Both fortresses were supposed to secure and defend the plateau of the Upper Donkey Mountain in order to make an attack on the partially lower-lying neighboring works (e.g. Fort lower Donkey Hill) impossible. The fort is maintained by the Ulm Fortress Association and is in fairly good condition. It can be circled on a footpath / trail. In some places the trees are only handlebar-wide!
