The refuge is located at an altitude of 2,000 meters on the plateau of the same name: the Ladin word "Ciampedie" means "Field of God". A beautiful larch and fir forest surrounds the plateau, which overlooks the lower Val di Fassa, so in some places you can see the towns of Vigo and Pozza di Fassa, as well as almost the entire valley. From the refuge you can enjoy a complete view of the main Dolomite peaks of the Catinaccio group, including the Roda di Vael, the Cigolade, the Cima Catinaccio, the Vajolet Towers and the Larsec Cliffs. The Sella and the Pordoi, the Marmolada, the Monzoni group, the Lagorai and the Latemar are all imposing mountains in the distance.

The Ciampedie Hut was built in 1904 by Silvio Rizzi from Pera in Val di Fassa as a private mountain inn. In the spring of 1913, the owner offered the hut to the Leipzig section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club due to illness in his family. Due to the very beautiful and convenient location, reachable from the Vajolet hut in 1 ½ hours, the decision was quickly made to buy the house immediately. The purchase price was 24,600 crowns. After the First World War, the Ciampedie hut was expropriated by the Italian state and handed over to the Trentiner Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini (SAT), a section of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI), in 1923.
