The nature reserve is located south of the coastal canal near Ahrensdorf. The Ahrensdorfer Moor is a largely preserved part of the Long Moor, in which there was little peat extraction. Industrial peat extraction of the raised bog only took place in the western part of the nature reserve. These areas are renatured through rewetting.
