A beautiful cold-water lake. The water is crystal clear, but you're not allowed to enter the lake. Stunning views in all directions. Benches around the lake invite you to take a short break.

The photogenic Kaltwassersee is no longer an insider tip, thanks to its panoramic location, it has long become one of the most popular excursion destinations and photo opportunities in the region. The impressive reservoir is only a few hundred meters below the middle station of the Rosshütte mountain railways and is therefore easily accessible. When walking ascent or descent from the Rosshütte or on a tour with an e-bike, you should definitely not miss out on a refreshing break at the Kaltwassersee.
Swimming is not allowed here, but sunbathing and relaxing on the benches along the lake are an absolute must. When the surrounding mountain peaks of the Karwendel are reflected in the crystal clear lake and the Hochegg Alm is just a few meters away with a wonderfully cold refreshment, you have long since found the perfect holiday moment.
In winter, the water from the reservoir is used to supply the snow cannons in the ski area. Even in the cold season, the lake offers an extraordinary photo opportunity right next to the ski slope.
