The Havelhaus is located in the southwestern part of Potsdam's Babelsberg Park, between Kindermannsee Lake and the Havel River. It was built in 1843 as the "Liebische Meierei" (Liebische Dairy) for Carl Ferdinand Liebisch. The two-story, neo-Gothic villa was used as a ferry house. It housed the ferryman who operated the ferry between Potsdam and Nowawes. It also served as accommodation for the park attendants. With the construction of Nuthestraße and its Havel crossing (today's Humboldt Bridge) in 1975, the ferry was no longer needed. After continuous residential use, the building has been vacant since 2016.
