From fish and fruit to flowers and clothes to souvenir items: at the fish market stalls, lined up on an open space at the Elbe harbor, almost everything can be bought. The baskets of fresh fruit are especially popular. Often there is a herring to buy on top - "come here, I also pack two salmon," it echoes the visitor. Bargains or not - that's what every visitor has to decide when strolling through the fish market.

At many stalls and market cars on the Elbe is traded and the woven baskets are packed until a buyer finds himself. The so-called market criers outbid themselves on decibels, in order to lure the shopping-loving customers to themselves. The result is a wordy and loud spectacle, which is watched by tourists and locals alike every week. But not everyone drags on kilos of fish home later - even a breakfast in the form of a fish roll directly on the banks of the Elbe with a view of the Port of Hamburg or an early morning Hanseatic "Schnack" worth the visit anyway.
