This investigation revealed that two former heathland areas near Dautphe, measuring 0.8 and 1.3 hectares respectively, remained, where regeneration seemed promising. Implementation of the planning began in 2002, the year in which the juniper was declared 'Tree of the Year'. The municipality of Dautphetal, as the owner of the land, supported the project and thus replenished its municipal ecological account. In the spring of 2004, the then Gladenbach Forestry Office carried out extensive clearing measures. Low-growing pines were preserved as landscape-defining trees.
