Tips

  • Interesting facts about storksWhite storks live to be around 25 years old, weigh around 4kg as adults, are around 1m tall and reach a wingspan of 2m. They feed on insects, worms, moles, mice, frogs, small snakes and the like. Their rattling serves as a greeting, but also as a threat. The young hatch from mid-May.
In Germany there are around 5500 breeding pairs, after there were twice as many in 1934 and their number was already below 3000 pairs.
When migrating to Africa, they avoid the Mediterranean and fly in groups either over Gibraltar or over the Bosporus. Depending on the area in which you start, you should therefore choose the west or east route. Their flight can be 10,000 km and even bring the storks from Germany to the southern tip of Africa.
Every year there are numerous new webcams with which you can observe nests. NABU even provides flight images with the migration routes of certain storks, see the ultimate link below.
here the nest in Munster near Dieburg, with many more details. There was also a webcam at the Hehnesentega.ag/entega-konzern/engagement/storchencam
