The so-called "Liobakirche" in Petersberg near Fulda is the burial church of St. Lioba, a relative of St. Boniface ("Apostle of the Germans").
Under the famous Fulda abbot Rabanus Maurus, a monastery and a church were built in 836 as a burial church for Saint Lioba. The crypt of this Carolingian building has survived to this day. Frescoes from the 9th century give an idea of the theological program of the original sacred space.
After extensive renovation, the church is open to visitors again. Church tours are offered by arrangement with the Benedictine nuns from the Cella St. Lioba.
