The Laxersteig is a challenging via ferrata, built as a complement to the easier Schützensteig, and has a difficulty rating of C to C/D throughout. It begins slightly lower than the Schützensteig and leads over steep and slippery rock passages before joining the Schützensteig, creating a longer via ferrata combination.

The most difficult sections are the entry wall and the first pillar (C/D), while other sections are rated B/C; shorter people (under 1.60 meters) may have difficulty in some places. From the summit of the Kleiner Jenner, you can enjoy impressive views of the Watzmann, Berchtesgaden, and Königssee. The trail is not suitable for beginners or children, and it is not recommended in wet conditions.

Yes, the trail is significantly more challenging than the Schützensteig. Combining the two is definitely worthwhile. However, the trail should be attempted in dry conditions, not in wet conditions. The approach/descent to the beginning of the trail is generally unpleasant, and almost dangerous in wet conditions. Why were ropes only installed at the lower end? And the trail itself is significantly more difficult in wet conditions. The slippery rocks combined with wet shoe soles make for less secure footing. In dry conditions, it's a beautiful via ferrata.

For shorter people (under 1.6m), some sections will be significantly more difficult. Prusiks may be necessary as an intermediate safety device. In my opinion, children have no business here.

As of the end of September 2020: Access made very difficult due to heavy rain. Very slippery!

The mountaineering school approached the entrance from below, from the top station of the lift. An official path will soon be built here, making access easier and saving elevation gain.
