      The oil reservoir Lütow-Krummin is located mostly in the northern part of the Gnitzes, a peninsula in the northwest Usedom between the Krummin Wiek and the backwaters.       The oil production in Lütow on the island of Usedom, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, began in 1966. Today, it is operated by the French energy group Engie (until 2015: GDF Suez). The deposit in the municipality of Lütow was the largest oil deposit in the GDR. The German-Canadian Central European Petroleum GmbH (CEP) carried out two test drillings until 2016, but these were commercially unsuccessful.
