Castrum de Zaupolis was built around the year 1000, for the needs of defending the territory from the incursions of the Hungarians. The castle is surrounded by the buildings of the castle village, dating back to the XV-XVII centuries, and by the large park built in the mid-nineteenth century. The main tower, partially rebuilt in 1900, was severed following the 1976 earthquake. The manor belongs to the Panciera family and is home to a farm.
