The Genkel Dam is a drinking water reservoir and is located in the urban areas of Gummersbach and Meinerzhagen. It is fed primarily by the Genkel and Grotmicke rivers. The average annual rainfall in the catchment area is 1,320 millimeters, which ensures an annual inflow of around ten million cubic meters. The drinking water from the Genkel Dam can supply most households in the area. It was built between 1950 and 1953.
