The Egill Ólafsson Museum in Hnjótur displays a unique collection of antique objects from the southern Westfjords. The museum shows the history of fishing, agriculture and everyday life in the region. The museum also has an exhibition about the daring rescue of the British trawler Dhoon, which ran aground on the cliffs of Látrabjarg in 1947. We already saw a reference to this rescue operation in Látrabjarg. A film about the accident was shown in the museum. The story will definitely keep me busy for a while. It is unbelievable what the Icelanders achieved there with their combined forces. In another room there is a stuffed polar bear. This polar bear was shot on Mount Þverárfjall in the summer of 2008 and had been standing in the town hall of Blönduós for a long time.
