The figure of the pitch burner is an absolute eye-catcher.

During the Middle Ages there were at least 14 pitch huts in the Finsterwald area where wood tar was made. In 1593, four more Pechhütten were mentioned, one of them south of Nehesdorf, although it is not certain that this was definitely the current location of Pechhütte. Pechhütte was first mentioned by name in a church register[1] from 1620 under the name “Pechhütte bei Grünhaus”.[2]

Before the Congress of Vienna and the cession of territory from the Kingdom of Saxony to the Kingdom of Prussia, Pechhütte belonged to Saxony. From 1816 the place belonged to the Luckau district of the Prussian province of Brandenburg. In the topographical-statistical overview of the administrative district of Frankfurt a.d.O. For the year 1840 the place is recorded as a pitch hut in Nehesdorf.[3] In 1864 the place, then known as Nehesdorfer Pechhütte, had 15 residential buildings with 105 residents and was part of the parish of Nehesdorf. In addition to the pitch hut, there was also a forester's lodge in the village.[4] There has been a volunteer fire department in the town since 1935.

The town of Pechhütte was never an independent community, but always belonged to the community of Nehesdorf. Until 1815, Pechhütte belonged to the Luckau district, which was converted into the Luckau district after the territorial changes of the Congress of Vienna. On January 1, 1925, the community of Nehesdorf was dissolved, Nehesdorf became a residential area in the main town of Finsterwalde and Pechhütte became a district. After the Second World War, the place was initially in the Soviet occupation zone and then in the GDR. During the district reform carried out in the GDR on July 25, 1952, Pechhütte was incorporated into the Finsterwalde district in the Cottbus district. After the fall of the Wall, the Finsterwalde district was renamed the Finsterwalde district and finally dissolved; the town of Finsterwalde and its districts were assigned to the Elbe-Elster district.

There should be a little break for the funny story of the pitch burner.
