The building was part of the huge facilities maintained by the Red Army in this area until 1993. During the Cold War, up to 30,000 Russians were stationed at times in Fürstenberg, with its population of just 5,000. This meant that a third of the entire municipal area was firmly in Russian hands: barracks, apartment blocks, tank workshops, garages, military training areas, warehouses, ammunition bunkers, a gigantic field bakery, a sports field, a boiler house, a total of 23 properties, evenly distributed across the entire municipal area. The higher ranks lived in the noble villas directly on Lake Röblin. Fürstenberg is still dealing with this difficult legacy - as the numerous lost places in this area impressively demonstrate.
