Magdeburg Water Bridge

With a total length of 5 km, it connects the Mittelland Canal and the Elbe-Havel Canal with its canal bridge and the Hohenwarhe double-lock without the detour via the Elbe. It includes many buildings e.g. At the heart of the waterway cross is the trough bridge, which at 918 meters is the longest canal bridge in Europe and made entirely of steel. Thanks to the Hohenwarthe double-lock, the ships can overcome the height difference of 18.5 m. Added to this are the savings lock and the Rothensee boat lift, the Niegripp lock and the connecting canal sections. As a result, the Ruhr area is connected to Berlin at the same level as the Elbe.
