St. Antonius - * Pestkapelle * in SCHÖPPINGEN / Gemen
The small half-timbered chapel was built in the 17th century (around 1650) and restored in 1967/1968.
The chapel is adorned with a thatched hipped roof.
In 1986 the St. Antonius chapel celebrated an anniversary
on the occasion of the 350-year worship of Antonius.
Based is a vow from 1636,
that the population had left during the plague period (30-year war):
They wanted to build a chapel in honor of St. Anthony,
if the plague would stop raging.
The chapel was built around 1650 after the plague in Gemen stopped.
Since then it has also been known as the “Pest Chapel”.
The chapel and the surroundings are lovingly cared for by the neighbors.
