According to tradition, there was a refuge here, from which the then royal riding district forester and later chief forester Maseberg, after the division of the brand in 1830 - 1880, oversaw the afforestation work in the formerly poor area, which consisted only of heath and sand.

The site is reminiscent of the forester Maseberg's wooden hut, which fell victim to a fire. The forester Maseberg was able to get to safety in time. The arbor was not rebuilt.
