One of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Stein is without a doubt the “Badhaus” on Mühlstrasse. But where does this name come from? It's quite simple: Until 1769, the building and its predecessor that stood on the same site had the lordly chartered bathing rights.

The bathrooms were on the lowest floor. It was mandatory for everyone to bathe at least once a month.
The barber's apartment was on the first floor. The medicines and herbs were stored on shelves on the floors above and in the three-story roof. The families in Stein each had the task of collecting a specific type of herb and handing it over to the barber. He stored the herbs and prescribed them when necessary.
