    Between 1248 and 1253, Duke Albrecht I of Saxony built a moated castle in the triangle where the Rotten Riehe flows into the Sachsenhäger Aue in order to consolidate his claims to rule in this area of the Minden diocese.
    The castle tower was probably built in the 16th century. Around 1600 the castle Sachsenhagen residence of the count Ernst zu Holstein-Schaumburg and his wife Hedwig von Hessen-Kassel and to the castle is expanded. Detailed information can be found at:
